About Paul

I wrote my first program in 1979, at 7, on a Magnavox Odyssey 2 in Elyria, Ohio. A Commodore 64 took over from there and kept me up through most of the 1980s.

The arc.

I've always built the same way: hold the whole system in my head, then make the real thing match the model. As a kid that was a Klingon Bird of Prey in LEGO, brick by brick from the picture in my mind. Later it was networks, platforms, and the security around them.

The first paid contracts came in the mid-1990s. CitySearch made me an IT manager in 1995, in the land grab for the early internet, and I was there when it bought the New York startup MetroBeat in 1996. Then I co-founded Arsenal Technology, whose first product was acareer.com, took contract development for Bank of America and Intel, and led a small onsite team at Silicon Graphics.

From 1999 to 2006 I went from developer to Director of Technology Operations at Corrigo, and designed the multi-tenant platform it sold on. Then the CTO seat at GoldMail and systems architecture on Zecco's 400,000-user trading platform. In 2012 I founded Triverium and ran it as CTO, with contract engineering at HP along the way. Security kept pulling harder: consulting at NeoPrime, acting CTO at 802 Secure, a granted patent for wireless-attack deception, and application security at RelayHealth, where the data belonged to patients.

Nike came next, across security strategy and application security, including a hackathon win for machine-learning vulnerability prioritization. At SentinelOne I was Senior Director of Cloud Operations through the IPO, then Principal Engineer on AI enablement and cost, eventually helping move more than 800 people to AI-accelerated development.

Somewhere in there I advised director Michael Mann on the hacking tradecraft for his film Blackhat.

A pattern runs through all of it: I get handed the system nobody can quite get across the line, build the model of how it should work, and ship it. Today I take fractional CISO and CTO engagements, am open to board and advisory roles, and build Bleenq.
