The setup
Intel called Arsenal for a one-off recovery. The Pentium II launch came with extensive developer support and outreach: technology loaners, grants for innovation, demonstration platforms, and training. Intel had deep, well-funded relationships with developers, especially in PC and gaming, and it was eye-opening to see from the inside how much they invested in getting developers to build for their newest chips and features.
What I did
I led the development of multiple applications supporting the promotion and adoption of the Pentium II’s capabilities through economic incentives to outside software development firms, working with the CPUID instruction in C and x86 assembly.
Tech & craft
Web application development, processor feature detection with CPUID, C and x86 assembly.
Note
Another recovery call, and a close-up look at how Intel drove developer adoption of new silicon features.
